Third Female Two-Star General

Nigar Johar became the third female two-star general in the history of the Pakistan Army. Major General Johar, a medical corps officer, was among the 37 brigadiers promoted last February. In 2015, she was featured in an Inter Services Public Relations video honouring women in the armed forces. At the time, she was the deputy commandant of Combined Military Hospital.

Sima Kamil is the first woman to lead a major Pakistani bank (UBL). This move signifies a significant shift towards women in the corporate sector. Sima began her career at American Express Bank. Her last assignment was at HBL where she worked  for 16 years.

Tehmina Janjua


Foreign Secretary of Pakistan

In February 2017, former Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif appointed Tehmina Janjua as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, making her the first woman to hold this post. Janjua’s appointment should go a long way in narrowing the gender gap in the male dominated foreign-service.
